Donate a Sewing Machine

Many sewing machines come to The Sewing Machine Orphanage not because they lack meaning, but because families no longer have the space, time, or ability to care for them. Donation allows these important objects to remain preserved and heard.

Donating a sewing machine is not abandonment. It is an act of stewardship.

By donating, you are ensuring that a machine is documented, respected, and cared for as a historical artifact. Its story becomes part of a living record, available for study, education, and, when appropriate, ethical adoption.

What We Accept

Machines may be donated whether they are working or not. Condition helps tell the story.

What Happens When You Donate

  1. Your machine is photographed and cataloged
  2. Its known history and provenance are recorded
  3. A preservation or light restoration decision is made
  4. The machine is cared for, studied, or prepared for ethical adoption

Not all machines are restored to working order. Some are preserved exactly as they are, because wear and repair are part of their story.

Family Stories and Provenance

If you know the history of your machine, we welcome it. Even small details such as who used it, where it lived, or how it came into your family help document its place in history.

Arranging a Donation

Donations are accepted by arrangement. Drop-off and limited local pickup may be available.
